IDA and Troy Downtown Collaborative Unite to Keep Business District Clean
IDA Provides $28K Grant for Sidewalk Litter Vacuum
Troy, N.Y., May 21, 2003 -- The Rensselaer County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) granted $28,000 in private funding to the Troy Downtown Collaborative, Inc. (TDC) to improve the appearance of sidewalks in downtown Troy with the purchase of a litter vacuum.
"Rensselaer County is working hard to promote the unique opportunities and qualities of downtown Troy that make it an ideal place for businesses to locate and expand," said Kathy Jimino, county executive of Rensselaer County. "A key component to making our efforts successful is creating an environment that is attractive to prospective and existing business owners and patrons. The litter vacuum will help do just that."
The Tenant ATLV, an all-terrain litter vacuum, has the capability of picking up items such as plastic plates, cans and coffee cups. A private contractor will operate the heavy-duty machine seven days a week under the supervision of the TDC. The machine will operate as far north as Federal Street, as far south as Congress Street, west to River Street and east to Sixth Avenue. To schedule a photo of the machine in operation, contact Robert Anderson at 518-272-1853. "Exciting things are happening in downtown Troy," said Robert Anderson, president of the Troy Downtown Collaborative. "As business owners and community leaders collectively work to establish a business improvement district, we are also working to improve the appearance of the area. The sidewalk vacuum will have a great impact on day-to-day life for area business owners and residents."
Troy Downtown Collaborative, which is comprised of local business owners, announced its plans on May 13, 2003 to establish a business improvement district in downtown Troy. The IDA gave approval for the funding at the April meeting.
