Rensselaer County IDA Receives Grant for Brownfields Clean Up
Troy, NY., November 5, 2003 -- Lt. Gov. Mary Donohue announced a $180,000 state grant for the Rensselaer County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) to examine the clean up of a former industrial site in the South Troy Industrial Park. The money, which was obtained through the states Environmental Restoration program that is funded by the 1996 Clean Water/Clean Air Bond Act, will be used to test ground water and soil samples at the 19-acre site that was once part of the Burden Iron Works and later the Republic Steel Corporation. The IDA has owned the land since 1990 and intends to sell the lots to commercial and industrial enterprises. A seven-acre portion of the land has already been cleaned up and was sold to New Penn Motor Express.
